E.V.Ng's Variations on Hanon, Piano Grade P2/Gr.1
Hanon's first 12 virtuoso technical exercises are rearranged and adapted to allow the youngest and earliest beginning pianist gain sustained proficiency in basic techniques appropriate to the music graded level of the Preparatory Grade. Best fit as a follow-up to the series of shorter, more focused exercises in the early half of the Preparatory Grade (P1 at Smits Music). This technique book is graded as P2/Grade 1 (Late Preparatory/Grade 1).
Exercises are short musical sequences in contrary movement to best suit the youngest students developing fine motor coordination as well adult students retraining fine motor coordination for the piano. Long, exercises requiring more stamina to execute basic arm bounces, staccato techniques, extensions and contractions, and arm rotations. Each exercise will focus on only 1 or 2 connected techniques. Although reading in musical sequence is easy in terms of pattern, it also requires much more discipline to follow, and awareness of subtle changes in notation.
